Lynn Newton13 May 2026We would highly recommend Robert and his team. From the first contact, providing multiple quotes to suit our needs (ours is a shared driveway) Robert was patient and efficient. Attending a couple of times to measure up. His team worked very hard, turned up early each day and worked constantly throughout the day. They made sure at each stage that we were happy with the progress and kept us updated. The end result is excellent, exactly what we were after. It looks fantastic. Frequently Asked Block Paving Driveways Questions
Our customers often ask for advice about our solutions, so we have put together a list of the most common questions and their answers
In most cases, planning permission is not required for block paving driveways, as long as suitable drainage is in place. However, if you are using non-permeable materials and the driveway is over 5 square metres, you may need approval. We can advise on regulations in York.
The cost of a block paving driveway in York depends on factors such as the size of the area, the type of materials used, and the level of ground preparation required. Additional design features, such as decorative borders and patterns, can also influence the final price. On average, block paving driveways range from £60 to £120 per square metre. For an accurate quote, contact JJC Roadways Ltd for a free consultation.
A well-installed block paving driveway in York can last 20–30 years with proper maintenance. The durability depends on the quality of materials, installation process, and regular upkeep such as cleaning and sealing.
At JJC Roadways Ltd, we follow a step-by-step preparation process to ensure a long-lasting driveway. The process begins with excavation, where we remove any existing material to create a stable foundation. Next, we lay a solid sub-base, which prevents sinking or movement over time. Proper drainage installation follows to ensure water does not pool on the surface, reducing the risk of damage. Once the groundwork is complete, we apply a compact sand layer, creating an even base before placing the block pavers. Finally, we finish the driveway with jointing sand and a protective sealant, enhancing durability and maintaining the structure for years to come.
Maintaining a block paving driveway in York is simple. Regular sweeping prevents debris buildup, occasional pressure washing removes dirt and algae, and applying fresh jointing sand helps stabilise the blocks. Sealing the surface can also protect against stains and enhance the colour, keeping the driveway looking its best for years to come.
Yes, block paving is designed to withstand heavy loads, including large vehicles such as vans and motorhomes. A properly installed sub-base is essential to prevent movement or sinking over time. At JJC Roadways Ltd, we ensure the correct foundations are in place to support all types of vehicle traffic.
Block paving offers several advantages over other driveway materials. It is highly durable, visually appealing, and easy to maintain, with the ability to replace individual blocks if they become damaged. Many homeowners in York choose block paving because it provides excellent drainage, is environmentally friendly with permeable options, and can significantly enhance the value of a property.
